I sat the test..Not!

4.00pm yesterday a call comes through. It's the driving school that I enrolled in informing me that my theory test is today morning at 9am. Talk about advance notice eih? Burning the midnight oil cannot possibly explain how late I stayed up attempting to cram gazillion of road rules into my rather thick skull.
4 hours of sleep, no breakfast, a miscelleanous RM10 and a long drive later, we arrive at the test centre and are shepherded into the room. The bulky officers then stop me in my tracks just as I'm preparing to identify the colours on the wall far behind and the number plates on them, which by the way happens to be the 1st part of the exam(it was a green plate, I think). Where is your passport miss?Im thinking, what are they talking about? No one asked me to bring it along? I have my id with me though? They say no can do...its passport or none.I thnk to myself what???!!!! after all the drama of getting here..this sucks! Worse still I have to sit outside the room and wait for the rest to finish since the van will leave at a certain hour only...ps: The centre is in God knows where so im not about to skip along the highway and find my way back to town.
And so the story goes...will have to wait for the next time. Im more frustrated for having wasted a morning and having my ballon of hope and expectation deflated with a simple question like that! Sigh...
And then there's the department meeting in about half an hour which would be ok if my eyelids could stay apart..I'm calling upon the mercies of good ol' nescafe in its strongest forms to see me through this one.

While in om dunia 1

The Egyptians have a saying; 'Once you drink from the waters of the Nile you will always be sure to return'. It sounds like hogwash but i daresay they have proven me wrong twice over.Having lived there for a year a few years back perhaps that means im destined to head back to the the land of the mumies time and again.
This time round the reason is fantastic..Marwa is getting married and were getting ready for the reception at the moment. We served on the same AIESEC EB at AUC 2001-2002...a team of 5 babes and 1 hunk. Marwa is the 4 to join the marriage bandwagon in the team leaving Shawky and I in the altar race...but I digress.
Those familiar with wedding procedure may be wondering where I found time to sit and type this amidst the hustle and bustle that is characteristic of these events. Well I can assure you, there is no hustle and bustle here; well at least not in the Hossam household. Marwa is taking a leisurely bath, her paps is on the couch watching a local soap, mum is tyding the kitchen and I'm hunched over the keyboard. Outside though, the F2 that is taxis vs buses vs other motorists vs horse and cart vs pedestrians continues.Cairo traffic never ceases to amaze..again I digress.
Its a culture shock for me not to have the bride going crazy, gazillion of aunties, bridesmaids, neighbours the works at the house on the night before the wedding and morning of the big day. The differences on how its handled here is astonishing.
Marwa and Hesham were officially married 2 days ago i.e they signed the papers already so tonight its just dine and dance which suits me just fine:) Perhaps some my people could borrow a leaf or two from these people...
Righty then, we just packed the bridal bag....were off to the salon for last minute touches then off to the 4 Season on the Corniche!
Yala ya shebeb, pictures will be coming soon

Disclaimer: the keyboard is set in Arabic..just incase some of the numbers appear funny...
