Orezzo rocks!

Any Kenyan will agree with me than never in a thousand years would we ever imagine a phenomenon such as the firing of an entire cabinet in one go. In the 3rd government and the 42nd year of independence of an African state: Whoa!.
On Nov 23rd,1900hrs(EAT), it has happened and I have nothing but admiration for my president.Anyone who may argue that it was the next obvious step needs a quick briefing on the nature of politics and governance in Africa.
The referendum campaigns indicated most blatantly that its time for a cleanup and a really good one at that.Even more suprising to me is that it appears that some of the politicians are taking it quite well. Perhaps some are sitting on the edge of their seats knowing that their chances of being recalled to government are rather thin but hoping nonetheless hence need to appear 'ok' with the move. Whatever the case, I'm praying that they keep their peace.
I await with bated breath the announcement of the new squad in the next 2 weeks(as indicated by the media)
Its about time Kenya gets into the books of history for providing direction and being a good example for the continent and even maybe for the world.
I voted for a visionary leader and a working nation; I am trust that this is where we are headed.

Wanjiku says....

Apparently Wanjiku has spoken loud and clear in Kenya.
She has declared the proposed draft consitition unfit. She was allowed to practice her consititutional right and she did it in a peaceful manner and for this I am proud of her and her government.
I still ask myself how it is that we came to have divided camps within the same government that prepared the drafts. I would think that the consitution being a doc from the government to its people, should have been presented from a united front BUT...... I digress....
When a majority speaks, I take alot of steps back to try and understand where some of this decisions come from. There are alot of kool things in the proposed draft e.g the further empowerment of women, granting parliament more powers rather than vesting them on one person, the Dual citizenship(something Ive wondered about for the longest time) to mention but a few. The 'NO' vote raised more issues all round particularly with reference to the powers of the Presidency. Personally, I liked the new draft with the exception of the religious courts which I thought were blatantly ridiculous. Im my undertstanding, the reason we have a kadhi's court is because Christianity is the official religion of the coutry leaving our Muslim brothers at a loss when it comes to issues that need to be solved under the Sharia law. That we have Christian courts is strange seeing as (correct me if Im wrong), the Laws of Kenya are writen based upon Christian doctrines and teachings.....
My take is we have just passed up an opportunity to bring about great changes in the name of political and tribal affiliations.
Still in a multiparty country with 42+tribes, I would like to pat each and every Kenyan's back for conducting themselves with calm and maintaining peace throughout the voting day. There were some ugly incidences during the campaign which in my opinion should not have occured. We have seen this things go wrong in other countries and I cannot say enough how proud I am of my country.
Now that the draft has'nt passed, where do we go from here? WhiteRose VIP drycleaners? Maybe not...Word is we need to wait abit if we decide to restart the process but dont just take my word for it, read more on

I went to East Africa and I saw.....

Disclaimer: This posting is a reconstruction. The initial nice and juicy script has since vamoosed thanks to the antics of the local power company.
....Green rolling hills;evergreen forests with patches where deforestation is rife;golden brown fields of savannah grassland that make you think of Sting's 'Fields of Gold';rioting students and citizens; vibrant colourful peace loving market women;baton wielding cops as well as your rare smiling traffic commandants;14hr bus rides on roads so nasty they put any safari rally track to shame;peace, joy, faith, prosperity and hope on the faces of citizens despite the political drama that is characteristic of this zones;entrepernurial folks who shove a naked grilled chicken, bananas, roast maize, contraband goods through your bus window once it slows down near a market area;fresh breezes that bring with them the smell of eucalyptus scents;landscapes so green and so brown they make the day worth living;acacia trees;hillsides dotted with goats, sheep, cows;matatus painted with all manner of colours and inscriptions;the smell and taste of mum's cooking;the reassurig hug of a friend;the pissed off look of a jilted lover;bootie so big beneath fragile denim fabric;ugali, mandazi, beef samosas, kenchic chips;blue skies amidst verdent green tea bushes...sigh...

Things they should say

Week 2 in Nairobi and im finding myself more and more amazed by this city. I feel like i have rediscovered it and its just great.
Im also doubly pissed off at all the entities responsible for publicing this country because they never tell you of some of the kool things for instance;
-The city council have done a job at making the streets in the city cleaner. Potholes not withstanding, repainted lines and an attempt at fixing some of them is commendable by all standards
-Works on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway is in progress and though not complete, I daresay it alot of steps up
-The number of coffee shops and cool hangout pubs are on the rise. Imagine hanging out at a sports bar, decent drinks, proper sounds from a dj(including lots of great local tunes), peace and love in the air, kenyans and foreigners having an equally awesome time.
Ah and you got to love the increase of live bands, salsa nights, middle east themed hangouts complete with shishas and mint tea:), asian cuisine, italian...the works!
-Lots of international cuisine now in Kenya at plenty of locations in the cities. On that note I recently noted 'Kowloon Chinese Restuarant' in the heart of Nairobi. Looks like my craving for Kailan and kwae tiao may just be dealt with.
-Branded stores or their near equivalents are in place. Though the pricing is way steep, we even have ''the body shop'.....never in a million years did I dream of this
- Young people taking up leadership roles in alot of local entities...there is hope for all of us.
-The availability of Roast meat(GOAT, fish, BEEF, Chicken) name it..at every opportunity:)

Next stop is the national park for a glimpse of things on that end...

.....I could go on and on but I think by now you get the drift
Whats that I hear? Your coming to Kenya already....KARIBU!

hodi hodi Narobi!

So im finally in the capital,Nairobi and thoughts its been barley 48hrs I can smell a very happening holiday this time round.
I have to say Im very proud of my little city now despite any stuff the media feed us.There isa natural tendancy to compare it with some of the other cities Ive been to and I can now proudly say that we are catching up and we are sooo in! If there is a time from anyone to visit Kenya,it is absolutely now.
Coffee shops galore, branded goods all over the joints, Kenyans finally taking charge of their own affairs, public transport running and road safety measures in place like there is no tommorow(you need to buckle up in a bus or matatu or else you risk a nasty fine!), music blaring matatus, gorgeus looking people on the streets, tall people(I live in asia so this is significant), cleanup of the streets in the CBD(few though they may be), Kenchic chips and kuku porno(pornographic chicken-referring to the bare chicken on a spit rotating on the window display of any chips shop-JUMMY!!), fresh air, blue skies, no humidity, getting hit on(not a common occurence for an african babe living in asia), less personal distance, technology development, the banana vs orange campaigns leading to the referendum on the constitution in about 2 weeks....ai! you cant beat that.
Im still overwhelmed by all the great stuff and totally loving it.
Trip to Kampala and Uganda is in the cards so if there are any nomads in that sector of the globe lets catch up?
Ahhh! im off to get me some greasy kenchic chips and a thigh of that porn chicken:)
Bless the day I was born in this republic!
