900m too short
Everyone once in a while I set myself up to some major challenges. This time around, Mt Kinabalu, one of the highest peaks in South East Asia was the object. A month or so of planning and finally the day. Located in the heart of Sabah, the peak a towering 4,095m nestles among the tropical rainforest of East Malaysia. ..and so we went.
5.5hrs to base camp, along an exhausting trail complete with boulders, manmade steps that are supposed to make your climb easier but only serve the purpose of tochuring you. Between my heaving chest, muscles on fire, intervals of mist and wondering when this will be over, I forgot to appreciate the flora and fauna..what the flora???!!!
Anyway point being we made it to base camp and I never wanted to see another mountain in my life. 2am is the wake up for the completion to the peak just in time for the sunrise. I hit about 200m and then the altitude sickness kicked in, nuasea, headaches the works! So, I took one for the team and headed back down, ego wounded and so were me lungs!
Nevertheless Sach and Az were gracious enough to take one of the peak at sunrise...
Next challenge, 5km run at the annual Hat Race..under 4pm Malaysian sunshine..wish us luck!
