3 years on...
Yesterday was my 3 year anniversary of living in Asia, more specifically in the land of lah-Malaysia, and yes there is such a thing as a 3 yr anniversary. Infact I think you can have an anniversary of any timeline. As is characteristic of this sorts of events, I imagined something superkool could have happened to celebrate this timeline but then again, I shouldnt let my imagine drive me too much no?
The question in my mind was having spent that amount of time in lands afar, what should be on my scorecard? Well well, after afew consultations with some very kool people, here's a kind of rough list(thank you Steve) in no particular order...
-No. of pets acquired: None(I live on the 14th flr, that would just be cruel)
-No. of new food(s) tried: Many...Asian cuisine is rather unique. Some very yummy and others positively not yummy and out of this world eeeiiww(Durian, Sharkfin soup, sea cucumbers, pig insides, huge black squeegly mushrooms eeerrrgggh!)
-No. of Asian countries travelled to: Work in Progress...
-Savings and investments: hahaha what?
-Drawn a clear career road map: Is is ever really clear?
-No. of husbands/boyfriends: Zilch/Nought/Nada/Hamna
-No. of children: as above
-No. of days when Ive just survived: Whoa! there are those days when you are simply existing
-No. of days when youve had an awesome time:Whoa!those Ive lost count of.
-No. of new life long friends made: A good number and I pray that we always stay so
-No. of new non-alcoholic drinks tried: Many...Ice Lemon Tea rocks! Best served hot at a smoky outdoor eatery. First he squeezes the juice out of the small green lemon into the cup of already very hot black tea with his fingers giving it that special oil like layer that floats atop the adds a good helping of sugar and voila! 'Te-oh Limau Panas' . On a really hot day toss in ice cubes and voila, a dream of a drink.
I however refuse to vouch for soya milk. The thought of milk coming out of beans is rather mindboggling eeiiiw!
-No. of new alcholic drinks tried: Arrrmmm who is counting ....
-No. of local recipes that I have attempted to prepare from scratch: 1-'Maggie Goreng' which is basically a quick fry of noddles and whatever you want in it. If the wok is hot enough, you should be able to scramble up a decent plate complete with all the noise, heat and drama of an Asia kitchen.
-No. of local languages learnt : Zero-too much English around me plus an absolute slackness on my part
-No. of other languages learnt: 1-Spanish. Ironic aint it?
-Amout of local lingo in my vocab: Well, enough to convince any taxi driver to take me to any destination on taxi meter:) Waliao! Where got wan like me wan? :)
-No. of Asian clothing items in my wardrobe: 4: Cheongsumx2,Songket,Happy Pants(fisherman trousers-I havent seen these elsewhere)
-No. of birthday celebrated: 3-each with as lots of gusto and lots of awesome people sharing the ocassion with me
I could go on and on but ill stop here...In summary, me thinks I can say so far, so good.........
I am very greatful for yesterday and looking forward to tommorow while living it up today....
