Wanjiku says....

Apparently Wanjiku has spoken loud and clear in Kenya.
She has declared the proposed draft consitition unfit. She was allowed to practice her consititutional right and she did it in a peaceful manner and for this I am proud of her and her government.
I still ask myself how it is that we came to have divided camps within the same government that prepared the drafts. I would think that the consitution being a doc from the government to its people, should have been presented from a united front BUT...... I digress....
When a majority speaks, I take alot of steps back to try and understand where some of this decisions come from. There are alot of kool things in the proposed draft e.g the further empowerment of women, granting parliament more powers rather than vesting them on one person, the Dual citizenship(something Ive wondered about for the longest time) to mention but a few. The 'NO' vote raised more issues all round particularly with reference to the powers of the Presidency. Personally, I liked the new draft with the exception of the religious courts which I thought were blatantly ridiculous. Im my undertstanding, the reason we have a kadhi's court is because Christianity is the official religion of the coutry leaving our Muslim brothers at a loss when it comes to issues that need to be solved under the Sharia law. That we have Christian courts is strange seeing as (correct me if Im wrong), the Laws of Kenya are writen based upon Christian doctrines and teachings.....
My take is we have just passed up an opportunity to bring about great changes in the name of political and tribal affiliations.
Still in a multiparty country with 42+tribes, I would like to pat each and every Kenyan's back for conducting themselves with calm and maintaining peace throughout the voting day. There were some ugly incidences during the campaign which in my opinion should not have occured. We have seen this things go wrong in other countries and I cannot say enough how proud I am of my country.
Now that the draft has'nt passed, where do we go from here? WhiteRose VIP drycleaners? Maybe not...Word is we need to wait abit if we decide to restart the process but dont just take my word for it, read more on

good point you make about the religious courts. i too had failed to see the reason for this (though haven't read the full document), and i must say your reasoning supports my doubts.
